Road Trip 2017: Scotland

"Are you ready, darling?" - It's tea...I mean travel time.

Road Trip 2017
Places: Scotland, Outer Hebrides, Isle of Skye
Travel style: Offroad, Wild Camping

The trip:
Tomorrow is the day! - Off we drive with our Landcruiser, starting from Austria and heading up north through Germany all the way to Calais / France. From there, the ferry takes us to Dover. Did I mention how I love the white cliffs of Dover? I am sure I did some heavy swooning before... :) In England, we will take the fast road towards the Isle of Skye with a short stop at Lake District.

Then it's time to get ready for the midges. These tiny, tiny vampires will definitely welcome us at Glencoe - one of our favourite spots before we move on to the Isle of Skye. We will eat lots and lots and lots of fish and have a lovely boat trip in order to see some sea lions, dolphins and *finger's crossed* otters. Gosh, I love them!

We will explore the isle a bit, a glass of whisky every once in a while... which will be quite often, I suppose. Don't look at me like this, we are on the Isle of Skye... the very heart of our favourite whisky. Everything else would be rude.

A few days and glasses of whisky later the next ferry will take us to the Outer Hebrides - I really can't wait to see all those wonderful beaches and coasts, my heart starts beating so fast right now: clear water and white sand, gorgeous!

We are big fans of old ruins and castles, and there will be loads of them in Scotland! Also, we will go hiking a lot. Once we are back from the Outer Hebrides, I just want to make sure Nessie is well.

Speaking of well: Well, that's it for the moment. Bye, bye!

New Artwork: Rain Dance

I proudly present my new artwork: "Rain Dance"

rain-dance-shower-curtains  rain-dance-clear-cases  rain-dance-metal-travel-mugs

Equipment:
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Tool: Wacom Tablet - Intuos 5

The idea:
It has been raining for over two weeks now and it seems I am the only one who is actually enjoying the weather. A lot of people are complaining about getting wet (by the way: did you know the basic umbrella was invented more than 4,000 years ago), even the radio reporter... and guess what: now it's getting hot again, people are complaining that they are sweating. *uuuuggghh* Mother nature has to be really pissed off, maybe that's the reason it rains so much...

With this artwork I want to show people that even rain is something beautiful, you just have to see it with open eyes and open mind. I know this sounds weird, but really appreciate the here and now is so precious - you simply need to feel it. Sounds easy? It is, try it! - Hear the rain drops and if you are lucky, you can spot a beautiful and magical rainbow after the rain!

New Artwork: Magic Mush Room

I proudly present my new artwork: "Magic Mush Room"

magic-mush-room-comforters  magic-mush-room-notebooks.jpg  magic-mush-room-pillows

Equipment:
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Tool: Wacom Tablet - Intuos 5

The idea:
I once saw a documentation about a beautifully designed Hobbit house and its design really striked me. It was a house without any edges. I really liked the idea and the architecture united so perfectly with the natural elements around it. What would you take with you if you could live in this tiny little mush room?

I would take a piano with me... well, that's probably it. How am I supposed to bring anything else, there is simply no more free space for anything else :) Just imagine opening the windows and playing a wonderful, slowly and melodic tune... apparently the fish in the sea will sing the chorus line while fireflies do the lighting effects :)

You think, my mind is weird? Don't be mad at me... I warned you... lets be mad together and dream of this funny magic mush room!

New Artwork: Astronaut Billards

I proudly present my new artwork: "Astronaut Billards"

Equipment:
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Tool: Wacom Tablet - Intuos 5

The idea:
Sometimes my husband and I enjoy a game of billards which is so much fun for the two of us. Well, the waitress doesn't see it this way at all: It happened so many times before that the white ball slipped right from the table and hit her either on the foot or on the body. Poor girl, and she is so sweet and kind. I know this is not the correct way to say thank you when the waitress brings you a wonderful pint of beer. Of course not. It is absolutely rude and I apologize to her even before the game starts :)

I thought it would be awesome if all the balls were moving very slowly like astronauts in their rocket ships... and "holy queue" - there you have it. My idea for this funny artwork was born. See the planet which will be kicked out from Orbit? This is poor Pluto...

Off you pop, but be kind to the waitress on your way, would you? :)

New Artwork: Tuscany Fairytale

I proudly present my new artwork: "Tuscany Fairytale"

Equipment:
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Tool: Wacom Tablet - Intuos 5

The idea:
About six years ago my husband and I travelled through the heart of Italy. It was a beautiful offroad trip with amazing scenerey, food and weather! We started right at the very northern part of Italy where we followed unknown offroad and straight roads down to Rome. Besides all those beautiful towns and places, our favourite is Tuscany. Once arrived, we passed high cypresses, wonderful green hills and fields where beautiful sunflowers seem to grin towards us.

I really can't explain why but somehow this picture came to my mind when I was thinking about a serene place somewhere in the middle of an Italian fairytale (I was actually sunbathing on our balcony... this is what I call a virtual mind holiday). I remembered the incredible sunrise and of course I want to share its colours with you.

Isn't it beautiful to get lost in those unforgettable memories? I wonder if you have aldready appreciated them today? If you haven't, I think it's time :)

New Artwork: Fleshy Fruit

I proudly present my new artwork: "Fleshy Fruit"

fleshy fruit throw blanket  fleshy fruit tote bags  fleshy fruit tapestries

Equipment:
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Tool: Wacom Tablet - Intuos 5

The idea:
Do you know the feeling when you want something so badly but you know you can't have it... of course, we all do, don't we? So here's my story: On a beautiful Sunday morning, I woke up and I was somehow desperate of eating a watermelon. Great, my body is yearning for this delicious fruit exactly at the right moment: when all shops are closed. People from America and other big countries: Yes, our shops are closed on Sundays, and yes I think this is a good thing :)

Nevertheless, I had to do some mind work in order to get rid of my appetite. I thought: "What would you say if the watermelon stones are crispy insects and you have to eat them right now? Would you be still eager on eating a watermelon?" My appetite became less. Good work, brain.

Somehow I thought of bigger animals and immediately sharks came into my mind. Sharks, water, sea, beach... Why not painting the top view of a watermelon representing a red beach? A bloody beach but still with a kind of humour in it. While my appetite for the watermelon was gone, my appetite for my next artwork has risen twice. Did you see the white towel of the funny man walking away from the beach? It's his way waving the white flag and yelling: "I give up, sharks! The sea is yours". The sharks in the meantime thought: "What a delicious fleshy fruit" :)

New Artwork: Alpine Enchantment

I proudly present my new artwork: "Alpine Enchantment"

Equipment:
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Tool: Wacom Tablet - Intuos 5

The idea:
My best friend and I have been to London for a few days. We definitely enjoyed this amazing city, the helpful and kind people, the British accent and, yes, the amazing taste of pale ale which I really have to mention - everything else would be unfair! :)

As always, time flies and so did the aeroplane back to Austria. While I was looking out of the plane's window in order to glance the top view of our country, I was impressed about the incredible number of green spaces Austria offers. "Are you getting this now?" I hear you saying... and yes, you are right. Of course, I have always known my country for its variety of trees and forests but for the first time those green spots hit my eyes again as if I have seen them for the first time. I really liked this feeling and - what a surprise - I started to paint nature... mountains... grass... lakes... and a cosy hut I can luckily call home.

New Artwork: Slumber

I proudly present my new artwork: "Slumber"

fishing for mushrooms clear cases  fishing for mushrooms clear t-shirts  fishing for mushrooms pouches

Equipment:
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Tool: Wacom Tablet - Intuos 5

The idea:
You have probably realized that I haven't posted much lately. The reason was that I had a very, very, very bad cold which forced me to stay in bed for quite a while.

Some days later my husband and I moved into a new flat and all happened so incredibly fast... I felt like Doctor Who travelling in time at the speed of light. By the way, travelling would have been much more comfortable in a Tardis :) ... but who am I to dream. In the end, a small car isn't bigger on the inside.

Busy but exciting days passed and we have finally managed to find some sleep. To be honest, I couldn't sleep for days because I had so many things going on in my head: Deadlines needed to be observed and due to my bad cold I wasn't able to paint, which felt terrible... but lets go back to happy now: This particular first night in our new flat full of sleep and calmness was amazing. Sleeping felt like heaven. Waking up the next day was so different than before. The sun was shining through the window and we felt so incredibly alive. Hence this artwork is a homage to the beauty and importance of sleep. The sandman in the background flies along in its boat and turns the landscape into a mystical desert while we sleep deeply in our new, comfortably bed.

Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator

The idea:
Okay. I have been sitting here for quite a while now, trying to remember when the idea for this artwork came to life. To tell you the truth, I have no clue. I was just sitting in front of the computer trying to start a new picture. Then, all of a sudden, I was thinking of a boat and how nice it would be to sit in it, watching the fish around me. Next thought: "Fishing Rod". So here I am, dreaming of a boat in the middle of a lake. Let's wander in my thoughts: "What if I just turn the boat... ooops, this looks exactly like the cap of a fly agaric. Oh nice! This reminds me of searching for mushrooms in the forest. Oh nicer! This is like fishing but in the forest. Oooooohhh!!". Simple as that. An idea was born out of complete nonsense. :) Enjoy!

The idea:
Have you ever felt an overwhelming charme by something or someone? This magical moment where you forget everything around you and enjoy the beauty showing up in front of you. It could be either a dreamy place or an interesting person...

"Lost in the Moment" is a calming, relaxing artwork where nothing matters except the present moment. Can you see those lovely fireflies? Can you hear the soft wind blowing? Can you smell the wonderful water lilly right next to you? The moonlight shines so bright. What a blessing!

New Artwork: Sweet Escape

The idea:
While I was having coffee and cake at my friend's house I glanced at the cake knife which looked suspicously dangerous (knifes in general scare the hell out of me). Always look on the bright side *whistle*.. fine, ok: The cake looked so beautiful. Yes, I felt kind of sorry for this delicious sweet thing. Hungry ladies were definitely ready to let it disappear soon. My thought was " If I were this cake, I would immediately escape from the dome glass. The delicious piece of cake reminded me of a small ship and well... here we are at the bottom of the ocean, looking at a sweet something trying to get away from the cake knife. Weird, isn't it? ... Do I still surprise you with that? :)

New Artwork: Alpine Island

I proudly present my new artwork: "Alpine Island"

Alpine Island Leggings  Alpine Island clear iphone cases  Alpine Island shower curtain

Equipment:
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Tool: Wacom Tablet - Intuos 5

The Idea:
My lovely, wonderful and precious friend talked about how keen she was on having a cosy and beautiful hut somewhere far away from all the city rush and daily routines. I really liked that idea, too.

Of course I immediately started daydreaming about a hidden, beautiful island somewhere in the middle of nowhere. A few days later I visualized this magical place through this artwork.

So what can you expect of this island? There aren't any humans or machines. Instead, you will glance trees, mountains and fields when looking out of the hut's windows. Besides, you will hear the soothing sound of a flowing river in the distance. Did you think the river was a path in the first place? You are right, it is. I have added a touch of Venice to it (gosh, I love this place!... :) ) There are no boats though, so pack your diving goggles when you go out for a walk.

New Artwork: Weird Waters

I proudly present my new artwork: "Weird Waters"

Weird Waters Travel Mugs  Weird Waters Shower Curtains  Weird Waters Clear IPhone Cases

Equipment:
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Tool: Wacom Tablet - Intuos 5

The Idea:
It's no secret that I really love flying or swimming objects, so why not putting them together in one artwork?! Of course! Ta-daaaaaa, "Weird Waters" was born. The airship's shape looks very similar to a shark body, don't you think?

My wonderful husband and I were watching a documentary about sharks lately and we both didn't like the way the animals got represented. According to the "documentary", they were bloodthirsty beasts who attack every human for fun. I don't have to mention that this documentary was crap, or to be polite "not quite my kind of taste" and I decided to save the sharks reptutation... a bit. Another victim had to be found, a very innocent kind of thing. That's where the airship comes to life, playing a very weird water animal. The shark is definitely unable to cope! :)

There's an East Wind coming

I proudly present my new artwork: "East Wind"

Wow. What an amazing Sherlock finale, I still can't believe what I have seen. Too many, too many, too many ... feelings to be fixed... again. Thank you Steven Moffat, Sue Vertue and Mark Gatiss for this masterpiece. The drama is definitely poetry and truth. Being a tremendous fan right from the start, it is nearly impossible to say goodbye to Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson because I believe in Sherlock Holmes.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman did a fantastic job as well as the rest of the amazing crew in front of and behind the camera. As you may notice, this blog entry will a bit longer than my usual entries, trying to have a little fun: Lets play a game. Lets play "find all Sherlock quotes in this blog entry". Sorry, I never can resist a touch of the dramatic. Speaking of drama, don't shed any tears when it comes to spoilers, I have warned you right away, drama queen. The game is on:

The Idea:
So, we have found out that Sherlock has a sister: Eurus. Locked up and isolated at a secret place called "Sherrinford", Mycroft is the only one who knows about her being alive.

Can you see the umbrella in my artwork? It symbolises Mycroft's dark secret. Isolated, Eurus must have shed lots and lots of tears, being trapped in her own prison. The waterfall, which is the place for the traditional ending of the "Final Problem" symbolises the connection between Sherlock and herself, carrying her and Sherlock's darkest secret: Redbeard.

The mystery regarding Redbeard's death is as deep as the water in the picture. Those of you who have seen "The Final Problem" know that there is always a steady connection between Sherlock and water. We remember Moriarty's swimming pool scenes, the waterfall scene in "The Abominable Bride" and the dark London aquarium, where Mary saved Sherlock's life.

The detective himself tried to figure out what the secret is but he was simply traumatised. After talking to Eurus for the first time, he slowly begins to remember: Redbeard wasn't Sherlock's dog. It was Sherlock's best friend. The drops in the water represent Sherlock's tears after he has finally found out the truth. Have you glanced a murder weapon when looking at the reflection in the water? No? That's the problem, you see but you don't observe.

We know from the very last episode that Eurus is locked up in a cell at Sherrinford. Only Mycroft knows where she is. I thought it would be a good metaphor to paint the place as a cold rock in the water. A rock without feelings and inaccessible - like Eurus. Only by playing the violin Sherlock gains access to Eurus' feelings. The smiley slowly fades away and the colours represents blood. Eurus killed Redbeard, it's not a game anymore: It is Eurus' silent murder - the murder of Redbeard, who drowned in the well.

It is what it is.

New Artwork: Fortuna's Message

I proudly present my new artwork: "Fortuna's Message"

Equipment:
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Tool: Wacom Tablet - Intuos 5

The Idea:
My lovely husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at one of our favourite Chinese restaurants. At the end of the evening, the friendly waiter surprised us with a fortune cookie, my very favourite fortuneteller (sorry, Mystic Meg...). I tried to eat the cookie but I was too excited to read the message (...ok, not really... these fortune cookies taste awful).

"Let your spirit soar".

Fantastic. I obeyed and off my thoughts went. I started a creative mind journey but as I had too much duck I decided to sent my fortune cookie off to take a long journey. What a beautiful landscape - the fortune cookie enjoys soaring above beautiful Japanese mountains and blossom trees. Farewell!

So here we are again... New Year is here, yay!
Do you have any idea which way to go? Not yet? Don't worry! The signpost in this artwork tells you exactly where to go... just kidding, it doesn't. I am very sorry to disappoint you.

I know it's a tricky question but you need to find the answer. There are no people around in this artwork, so you can't ask them for help. Well, actually you won't need them. If you think you are lost, I have very good news for you: YOU decide where you are going. So go and take the four leaf clover with you, spread the world with your happiness and leave a trace of love whereever you go.

Digital Artist, New Website, Portfolio    by Schwebewesen

More than just a new Website

So, here we are again. Working until Jack turned into a dull boy in order to bring this website to life (some Shining reference here to make a very clever transition to my next sentence). Speaking of shining (*claphands*), I really had the shining in the middle of the year. Do you want to know why? - Well, then we'll have to jump back a little: Last year was quite a busy year for my company. I had lots of inquiries about illustrations and graphical works which is very good, isn't it? Of course it is... BUT (you knew this was coming, didn't you?) there was one thing I was desperately missing: creating my own designs. I knew that if I move on doing client inquiries I won't be able to fulfill my dream in devoting myself to what I love most: creating digital art for my online shops.

Actually, now I can.
And it makes me happy.
...and we all should do what makes us happy, right?

Life is not about money, it's not about what people think of you, it's about your life and your passion. We have the freedom to do so; even if it’s a veeeeery lengthy process (you should see the metaphorical blisters on my feet). In the end, those blisters turn into blesses. It's magic!
